Thank you to Missouri Botanical Garden educator, Tonya Brown, for a presentation on implementing science-related read-alouds as part of our reading sessions.  She not only shared book ideas, but also a fabulous flannel board idea based on how vegetables grow.  Super cute!  In addition, volunteers received a new copy of the book, And the Good Brown Earth, to use in future science-related sessions.

For added fun, our volunteers received one raffle ticket for each year of service and were entered into a drawing for fabulous prizes!

Congratulations to our winners:

Joyce Cornwell – Muny Tickets

Leanne Schneider – Cardinals Tickets

Sue Darcy – Circus Flora Passes

An Evening of Appreciation and Inspiration

Wednesday, May 14th, 2014

Close to 100 of our volunteer readers, community partners, Board members, and staff gathered at Clayton High School to celebrate one another and remind ourselves why we are so passionate about our mission.

Ready Readers is so very grateful for the committed effort of all our volunteer readers and community partners that make our work possible.  This year, we honored a few of those people/groups, who are certainly representative of our larger collaborative.

CONGRATULATIONS to the following 2014 recipients:

After a movie-themed meal and the honoring of the aforementioned recipients, we settled in for a 30-minute PBS documentary entitled, “Are We Crazy About our Kids?”  This film is part of a series that will air this coming fall.  It was also the subject of a recent blog on our website, which I’d encourage you to check out by CLICKING HERE.  After the viewing, we were honored to have Elizabeth George, co-chair of the Regional Early Childhood Council, join us to field questions about this powerful film.  I would encourage you to continue the dialogue around this topic, by replying to the blog.

Handouts that were distributed at the event can be accessed by clicking below:

THANK YOU to each and every one of our volunteers and local partners for a fabulous 2013-2014 program year!  As the video pointed out, our work is never finished.  In fact, it’s really just begun, and through the dedicated work of each person directly involved with Ready Readers, we really can make a difference, one child and one book at a time.
